rear window social networking
presented at PechaKucha Night Chicago

Digital tickers installed on Chicago resident’s front facades display scrolling status messages akin to Twitter. These ‘chirps’ [CHIcago Real-time Postings] inform passersby about the inner happenings of a residence. The chirps may become literal captions for the activity taking place, viewable through an open window.

CHIRP is an interactive technology. The public is invited to respond to particularly provocative chirps. Passersby can text the street address to CHIRP to “Like It!” A CHIRP website will collate and publish the most the popular events happening throughout the city. The system will also designate events as closed or open, intermittently inviting the public to join.
