URBAN [CO]OPERATIVE

urban farm complex; Chicago, IL

A confluence of transit routes presents an ideal opportunity to design a residential, intentional community with a high degree of social interaction. The project unites a cohousing scheme with agricultural growing space. The community functions as a cooperative by sharing agricultural resources, means of transportation, and common living facilities. The cooperative environment allows food production and communal living to become part of urban culture by making growing spaces visible and by allowing families to participate in their own sustenance.
